Yes it most certainly is possible to apply critical thinking to spiritual beliefs. In fact, how can one know one's self without applying critical thinking to all things spiritual. Spirituality and religion are 2 completely different things. The first originates from within. Whereas, the latter was created and devised by man for his own gains.
